Additionally, TECH Clean California offers an Electrical Work Bonus Rebate to offset the expenses associated with electrical work necessary for heat pump water heater installations.
Qualifying electrical work can earn an extra rebate equivalent to 50% of the costs, with a maximum rebate cap of $2,000. Eligible electrical work encompasses a range of tasks, including the replacement, upgrade, or relocation of the main service panel, installation of smart load centers or circuit breakers, sub panel installation, and upgrades to the feeder or secondary disconnects.
Heat Pump Water Heater Equity Incentives
Residential customers who replace their existing natural gas water heater with a heat pump water heater may be eligible for additional equity incentives.
Customers residing in single-family homes are entitled to receive a base rebate amounting to $4,185, along with an additional equity incentive of up to $10,385. On the other hand, owners of multiple-family properties are eligible for a base rebate of $1,000 per kWh, with a maximum incentive cap of $300,000 per project.
For single-family homes (four dwelling units or less), the residents must have a household income that falls into one of the following categories:
- Equal to or less than 80% of the median income in the area
- Equal to or less than 250% of the federal poverty level
To qualify for the heat pump water heater rebates in California, customers must meet certain requirements. This includes enrolling in an eligible Demand Response (DR) program and being on a time-of-use rate plan. Additionally, the heat pump water heaters themselves must meet the eligibility criteria set forth by the program in order to be eligible for the rebates.
