Was Your A/C Trying to Tell You Something Last Year?

|
Let’s face it, you probably don’t even think about your AC unit unless you’re dealing with some type of emergency, when it stops working during the hottest month of the summer “OH NO”. Your A/C unit may have barely made it last year and struggled through the twists and turns of 2020, and you were hoping that if it just made it through the summer, you would replace it next year.Well, now that summer is right around the corner, it may be the right time to consider upgrading your unit soon. Today, we are going to discuss if your AC unit might be giving you hints that it needs some tender loving care (TLC) or giving you signs that the end is near.

WHAT TO DO IF YOUR AC IS MAKING WEIRD NOISES

That there can be a sign that your AC unit needs more than an ample amount of TLC. It is time to call a professional as soon as possible to do a safety check to assure that it’s safe to operate. These noises may include banging, clanking, clicking, buzzing, squealing, humming, chattering, screaming, and whirring. That is a lot of weird noises to be concerned about!

Banging or knocking is a sure sign that a part is broken inside the AC and may be the heart of the unit or “the compressor”. Do not attempt to fix this yourself and call an HVAC company instead to perform the repairs. Clanking could also mean that there is a part on the loose or out of place. Clicking is a sure sign of defective control or a failing thermostat. Buzzing could mean a lot of things, including faulty parts, insects that have invaded the AC, debris, loose parts, leaks, or your condenser coils that need to be cleaned. Motors squeal when they are about to die, so that should also be a cause for concern.

Chattering could mean that your unit is deteriorating, or you have something stuck in there. Screaming is also a very, very bad sign. If your unit is screaming at you, call a professional right away, DO NOT SCREAM BACK! LOL, just call. This is a sign that there is a refrigerant leak, which is not good for your health. A whirring sound could be a broken belt or a faulty fan.
